Microcurrent: It’s All About the Facial Muscles!

If you’ve been with me for any length of time you have definitely heard me talk about microcurrent and its incredible ability to combat the signs of aging – NATURALLY.

Microcurrent technology is so effective at combating the signs of aging that it is often referred to as a non-surgical facelift. Truly!

Today I am going to explain (without getting too scientific or technical) exactly how this technology works and what it is.

In a nutshell…

Microcurrent technology works by gently firming and toning the skin through muscle reeducation by stimulating the facial muscles with small amounts of electricity. This gentle electrical stimulation triggers a reaction at the cellular level, increasing ATP (adenosine triphosphate – the cell's metabolism), elastin, and collagen.

The increase in ATP combined with electrical stimulation assists the facial tendons to strengthen the muscles, thereby bringing definition back to the face. In essence, muscle memory is ignited by reproducing the body’s own biological current.

There’s Microcurrent, then there’s Myolift TRUE Microcurrent…

Now that we see how microcurrent technology works, let’s talk about what microcurrent is and the difference between microcurrent and Myolift True Microcurrent.

  • Microcurrent

    • A minute form of energy delivered in microamps which mimics the human body’s biological electrical system to heal itself.

  • True Microcurrent

    • A range of microcurrent energy that is beneficial in building the integrity of the facial muscles and skin without creating a negative or adverse reaction in the body’s own healing abilities.

      • No visible muscle contraction to the skin is needed to receive the full benefits and desired results.

Let’s go a little deeper…

If you’ve ever had physical therapy, it is likely that the therapist placed sticky pads attached to a machine by wires to the area of your injury. When the machine was turned on, it caused intense and uncontrollable contractions to the muscle. That is microcurrent! The waveform used in this type of microcurrent is very different from what is used on the muscles of the face, though.

As previously stated, with Myolift True Microcurrent, visible muscle contraction is not needed in order to receive the full benefits and desired results of a microcurrent facial treatment. In fact, when it comes to the muscles in the face, it is a misconception that "more is better". That's because higher microcurrent intensity can work adversely by breaking down the body's internal essential functions of producing ATP, prohibiting the healing and repair of skin and muscles.

Here’s another way to think of it…

The muscles in our face are exactly the same as the muscles throughout our body in the sense that they need to be exercised in order to maintain firmness and tone. When we lift weights or do yoga, we increase muscle tone by repeatedly flexing and relaxing various muscles. Microcurrent creates the same flexion and relaxation of the muscles in your face, just like your body experiences when you workout! Except this workout doesn't require any work on your part! Your job is to get cozy and relax!

What is a Microcurrent Facial Treatment Like?

During the treatment, you may feel a slight tingling sensation. Other than that, microcurrent facial treatments are soothing and relaxing.

Currently, I offer a 60 minute microcurrent treatment. It begins the same as all my other facial treatments - with a deep pore cleanse! Next, I apply a nourishing, hydrating conductive gel. Then, I perform the Myolift microcurrent treatment. After removing the conductive gel, I prepare your beautiful, energized and lifted skin for the rest of the day (or night) with the appropriate serums, eye creams, and SPF/moisturizer.

I am in the process of updating my Microcurrent Facial Treatment Menu and am excited to begin offering a few different microcurrent facials. Each one will differ in duration and provide you with options like additional modalities, such as LED and/or conductive microcurrent eye and lip masks, as well as the addition of an exfoliation treatment and a customized mask. Stay tuned for this exciting new menu!

Consistency is Key!

Just like our bodies need consistent physical activity in order to stay in shape, the muscles in our face need cumulative, consistent microcurrent treatments. I recommend a series of 6 treatments, scheduled once a week, followed up with maintenance treatments once a month.

Another option is to start with a series of 6, as explained above, and purchase the Myolift QT home device (I am a retailer!) to use at your leisure as often as you like. When the Myolift QT is used on a regular basis at home, two to three times per week, your professional maintenance treatments can be reduced to once every three months.
